Helmut Lang

Helmut Lang is a self-trained Austrian born artist. (He left the brand in 2005 and retired from fashion though.) He opened his label in Vienna in 1977 and then a boutique in 1979. He became known for his minimalistic and utilitarian mood. Some of you may ask \”Why Helmut Lang at Cultizm?\”, and here\’s the very simple answer. He was a real pioneer in the fashion business back in 80-90s, and used a lot of unconventional materials such as rubber, feathers and metallic fabrics, but also used denim a lot. That actually made a strong impact in the 90s and made Helmut Lang jeans popular as premium denim.

A/W 1996-1997 was a very important season for Helmut Lang. The collection combined a sleek military-inspired aesthetic with distinctive rubberized details and Lang\’s signature cut-outs. While being a critical and commercial success in itself, it also showcased a small capsule collection of denim garments labelled \’Helmut Lang Jeans\’. This small range was the first chapter of Lang\’s extremely successful jeans line, which was introduced in full for S/S 1997. Since then, Lang has been recognized as a major force in the transformation of jeans to covetable, highly conceptual fashion items. This denim jacket features the collection\’s signature rubberised stripes, which were an instant success at the time of its release. A different version of this piece was worn by Raf Simons in his S/S 2013 runway presentation for Dior.

Helmut Lang and multi-format artist Josephine Meckseper have partnered for the first time on a limited edition jeans capsule within the fall/winter 2019 collection. Inspired by the Helmut Lang Three-striped trucker jacket from 1997, Josephine hand painted a modern interpretation of the design onto a masc trucker jacket. The process was replicated through an intensive screen printing technique to emulate the original designs with a three-dimensional effect.

The trucker jacket features;

  • 100% cotton 13 oz Italian denim
  • Generous shoulder and sleeves
  • Hem pitches slightly down at front
  • Tapers sharply at waist
  • 2 front flap patch pockets
  • Button closure
  • Branded buttons and rivets
  • Contrast double-needle chainstitching
  • Fits true to size
  • Made in Italy
